PEI heat pump rebates: what's left after April 2026
Since 2018, PEI and Canada have invested $95 million to install 45,000 heat pumps on the Island, according to the provincial government. That support has now mostly closed.
| Programme | Status |
|---|---|
| General heat pump rebates | Ended 15 April 2026 |
| Late claims for purchases 15 Apr 2025 to 15 Apr 2026 | Open, within 1 year of purchase |
| Free heat pumps | Closed to new applications |
| Oil to Heat Pump Affordability | Closed |
The federal rebate
For most Islanders, the National Heat Pump Rebate ($2,000, or up to $10,000 below the median income) is the main new source of support. It opens in early 2027 for installs from 1 November 2026. PEI thresholds for the higher amount run from $38,831 (1 person) to $134,232 (5+).
Check this first: the federal rules exclude addresses where federal funding was already provided for a heat pump. Some past PEI heat pump support was jointly funded with Canada, so ask Efficiency PEI whether your previous rebate included federal money. Unverified how this applies to joint programmes.
