Short answer: Install an eligible heat pump (on the official list, by AHRI number) through an HVAC contractor on or after 1 November 2026, keep a detailed receipt, and apply when the portal opens in early 2027. Households at or below their province's median after-tax income may get up to $10,000; others $2,000. One rebate per household.

On 1 November 2026 the Government of Canada published the eligibility rules for the National Heat Pump Rebate: $2 billion to support up to 820,000 households installing a cold-climate heat pump. This is our plain-language summary. The official page is the source of truth, and the government says parameters remain subject to change.

How income is checked

Take your 2025 tax return: line 23600 minus line 43500. If you have a spouse or common-law partner, do the same for them and add the two. When you apply for the higher amount you give your SIN and the CRA verifies it. Try our income checker.
